In light of what is going on in the world and with the movie going business barely operating, ParkUpp has partnered up with a drive-in cinema company to launch a series of drive-in cinemas in the most sought after roof-top parking with amazing sunset views and “interesting” locations.

In April, the company had frozen their customers’ accounts in an effort to ease the financial burden and using their ability to make quick decisions as an advantage to maintain their customer relationships. Since then, the company has found interesting ways to use the empty parking spaces.

“We’re excited to bring back the classic movie-experience and make it ubiquitous in our communities to enjoy together. Our main business is parking and now we have identified a new opportunity to utilise the spaces differently while the world is finding it’s new norm. Of course, people have access to a plethora of stuff to watch online in the of comfort of their own home but right now, people are yearning to get out the house, what a better way to have fun, enjoy an experience while being safe and sound.

This is just one of our ideas to convert a parking lot into something useful. We will be looking at other interesting ideas throughout the year as well” - Michael Savvides, co-founder of ParkUpp.

The company announced on Monday that they will be launching the series with no specific locations other than saying it will be a curated selection of indie films, classic throwbacks and some concerts will be performed. Furthermore, there’s never been a greater time where people are looking for an experience outside of their own home, to connect and see other faces.

Early sign ups for Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town can be done through the ParkUpp. The company is also looking for food and drinks partnersFor more information, visit www.parkupp.co.za/DriveInCinemas
