eThekwini Mayor Wishes residents a Happy Africa Day & Eid Mubarak

EThekwini Municipality Mayor, Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda has called on all the residents of eThekwini to mark Africa Day by uniting in the fight against the scrourge of the COVID 19 pandemic. 

Today marks the 57th anniversary of the formation of the Organisation for African Unity (OAU), the predecessor of African Union (AU) which is also known as Africa Day. 

Mayor Kaunda said that now is the time for all of us to build from the solid foundation that was laid by the prominent intellectuals and former heads of state such as Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, Julius Nyerere of Kenya, Sékou Touré of Guinea and Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia, to intensify the fight against the virus and many other challenges facing the African continent. 

“We pin our hopes to our sons and daughters of the soil to help us not only find the cure for this pandemic but to come up with multifaceted strategies of turning the tide against the pandemic whenever its rearing its ugly head,” said Kaunda. 

Mayor Kaunda also wishes the Muslim community a happy Eid Mubarak: “ It was no coincident that this year’s Eid Mubarak fell on Africa Day, the tolerance of one’s religion and beliefs is one the fundamental founding principles of the Organisation for African Unity and it is also the organisation's major strides in conflicts resolution in the continent. We hope that this Eid will grace you with happiness and prosperity”.
